2010 SUMMER INTO FALL

CURRENT CLASSES

ABOUT OUR CLASSES

DESIGNED FOR YOU TO GET THE MOST OUT OF WHATEVER MACHINE YOU HAVE!
We try to limit our classes to 6 students for the basic introductory classes and 4 students for the project classes.
We can not run a class with fewer than 3 students. You are signed up when you pay for the class.
If we do not have enough students a week before the class starts, we will either cancel it or postpone the start date.
If we cancel you get your money back in full. If you cancel less than a week before the class starts we do not refund. More than one week you get a refund less a modest cancellation fee.
Every class has a list of items for you to bring or purchase in order to participate fully in the class. Please be sure to get a class list before you come so that you will be prepared.

We also have private classes available. Tuition is $25.00 for the first hour and $20.00 for each additional hour per session.

CORE CLASSES

MACHINE BASICS
Instruction for mechanical machines. From bobbins to button holes you will have help with every aspect of sewing with your new machine.
FREE to new MSM Viking owners with a refundable deposit of $10.00 to hold your place in class. $15.00 to MSM Viking owners over 1 year & MSM Singer owners. $25.00 to all others.

MACHINE BASICS with Jean

This is an Emerald 116 & 118 class.

MACHINE BASICS with Sherry

This is a basic class for mechanical machines, most models.

SERGER BASICS
This is a beginner's class that will give you the confidence to operate your machine. Basics cover threading, tensions and machine maintenance.
Tuition: FREE to new MSM owners with a refundable $10.00 deposit to hold your place in class. $15.00 for MSM Viking owner's over 1 year and new MSM Singer owners. $25.00 for all others.

VIKING DESIGNER BASICS
TEACHER: Barbara
TBA. We schedule this class when needed to suit your schedule when possible.
All Designer computerized machines qualify for this step by step class. Barbara will help you through any questions as you make "hands on" samples.
Tuition is FREE to MSM owners within 1 year with a $10.00 refundable deposit to hold your place in class. $25.00 to MSM owner's over 1 year. $50.00 to all others. There is a $20.00 (plus tax) kit fee to all for class supplies.

VIKING EMBROIDERY BASICS

TBA We schedule this class as needed to suit your schedule when possible.
All of the "ins and outs" of working with hooped embroidery. stabilizers, threads, etc..
Tuition: FREE to MSM owners under 1 year. $25.00 to all others. A modest (plus tax) kit fee for materials is required for all.

VIKING'S EMERALD 183 & 203, SAPPHIRES & TOPAZ
Owners will find that taking this class is well worth their time. From buttonholes to hemming, they will learn the nuances of all the basics these machines have to offer.
Tuition : Free to new MSM owner's with a $10.00 refundable deposit to hold your place in class. $25.00 to owners over 1 year. and all others.

EMBROIDERY CLASSES

EMBROIDER with ME  New!

September 20, 2010, Monday from 3:30 to 5:30 or 6 to 8pm.
October 18, 2010, Monday from 3:30 to 5:30 or 6 to 8pm.

All Viking embroidery machine owners are welcome to gather around the 3rd Monday of each month [space very limited]. Every month features a different embroidery project. Learn the many facets of your machine in a fun and interesting class. Topics TBA.
Tuition is $20.00 per class. There is a kit fee (varies from class to class) for some classes and a materials list (varies from project to project) for others.

Supply List for Emb. with Me. class Monday Aug. 23, 201:

We will be making an insulated water bottle cover.
We will be using the Endless Hoop and a new design from the Viking cross stitch collection.
For those who don't have an Endless Hoop, I will bring mine in and we can also use our 5 x 7 or 240 x 150 hoop.

Supply list:

* Endless hoop or 5 x 7 or 240 x 150 hoop.
* 3/8 yard of bright small print fabric for the lining, bottom and piping around the top. From this fabric please come pre-cut with the following pieces:
.....one piece 2"x10"
.....one piece 8 3/4"x 10"
.....one pieces 2 1/2 " x the width of the fabric for the strap
.....two pieces 2" x 4" for loops
* From Insul-Bright:
....one piece 8 1/4" x 10".
* Also one piece around 12" x 15" white or light color for the embroidery that we will cut down to size later.
* Tear-a-Way stabilizer.
* Clear B Edge joining foot.
* Clear Stitch in the Ditch foot.
* Dual Feed Foot w/ snap on 1/4 " guide and the other included snap on feet.
* Sewing thread.
* 4 or 5 colors of embroider thread to coordinate with your fabric.
* 1 package of Large O rings.
* i package of Large Swivel Clasps (sold in purse section by the patterns). Use your JoAnn coupons!
* 1/4" Steam-A Seam.

METHOD CLASSES

2 PANSIES A MONTH  New!

August 18, 2010, Wednesday from 1:30 to 3:30 pm.
September 1, 2010, Wednesday from 1:30 to 3:30.
September 22, 2010, Wednesday from 1:30 to 3:00.

This is an Anita Goodesign class. You will be embroidering her "Pansies & Parosols".
We will have a class about every 2 weeks until the project is complete.

Tuition is $15.00 per class plus the cost of supplies. You must have your own design CD for the class. We can order it for you (allow a week).

BEYOND THE BASICS: Emerald 183 & 203  New!

October 15, 2010, Friday from 6 to 8pm

This is a follow up to the Emerald Basics class. You will learn various techniques and the use of specialty feet for quilting.
Tuition is only $10.00 and includes supplies.

FREE MOTION / STIPPLING: A quilter's technique class.
TEACHER: Jean
September 22, 2010, Wednesday from 6 to 8pm.

Learn the basics of free motion sewing to add that extra demension to your quilts and garment sewing. The ins and outs of adjusting your machine for the special threads that you will want to use is Jean's real expertise.
Tuition is $12.00, class list.

PROJECT CLASSES

MAKING ROMAN SHADES or WARM WINDOWS
TEACHER: Ronnie
October 19, 2010, Tuesday from 5:30 to 8:30pm.


You can save enough to pay for a new sewing machine when you make your own Roman shades. It isn't difficult when Ronnie shows you the tricks that the experts use.
Tuition is $25.00 plus supplies.

QUILTING CLASSES

BABY QUILT  New!

September 29 & October 6, 2010, Wednesdays from 5:30 to 8:30.

Let Ronnie show you step by step how to make this adorable appliqued baby quilt. Make it for that special baby about to enter this world or that baby you already get to hug.

Tuition is $35.00.
You will get a supply list when you sign up.

BACK TO BASICS QUILTING wih Jean D.  New!
TEACHER: Jean D.
September 21 , 28, October 5 &12, 2010. Tuesdays from 6 to 8:30pm.

You will be making the ever popular classic LOG CABIN QUILT Ffrom start to finsh. Jean will take you from cutting to binding.

Tuition is $55.00 plus a supply list.

MAKING CIRCLES with Jean: A quilter's technique class  New!
TEACHER: Jean L.
October 8, 2010, Friday from 6 to 8pm.

Learn to set a circle in a square to make beautiful quilt blocks for a whole quilt, a pillow, a picture or wherever your imagination goes. This technique is one you can employ again and again.

Tuition is $10.00 with a short supply list:

*sewing machine in good working order (only needs to straight stitch).
*1/4" piecing foot.
*thread - good quality matching top and bobbin.
*scissors - sharp pointed.
*2 pieces of quilting cotton cut into 12" squares - NOTE:
Please use rotary cutter: cut on grain: press smooth.
One piece should be light and one should be dark (one can be a print).
Extra prepared fabric in case the first one has an accident.

4D EMBROIDERY BASICS

This is an introductory class that will give you the confidence to customize designs by combining designs, resizing, adding lettering & shapes and more.
If you already have the software you can bring it on a lap top to follow along . We have one laptop to share.
If you haven't yet purchased the software you can look at this as a demonstration class to help you decide to make the purchase.

Tuition is free to MSM owners and $20.00 to all others.

4D FRIDAY
TEACHER: Barbara

September 17, 2010, Friday from 1:30 to 3:30.
October 5, 2010, Friday from 1:30 to 3:30.

This is a hands on computer class (no sewing) to help you become proficient with your software.
You will need to bring your laptop with your software loaded.
Tuition is $20.00.
